The Data Mart engine, connectors, and governance layer are identical. The difference is where it runs and which delivery channels are available.
Self-managed gives you the engine. Cloud adds the delivery channels and self-service layer. Start self-managed, upgrade to Cloud anytime — your Data Marts carry over.

The Community edition includes everything you need to build a governed analytics system. No feature gates on the core engine.

Your desktop, a cloud VM, or your company server — anywhere Docker runs. No complex infrastructure required.

Start free with Community. Add multi-client isolation with Agency. Get SSO, RBAC, and HA clustering with Enterprise.

Download from GitHub. Install. Connect your warehouse. Build your first governed Data Mart. Push to Sheets.
No vendor account. No credit card. Install, connect your warehouse, and start building.
Download from GitHub, run npm install, configure your data warehouse credentials. 5 minutes.

Connect sources, import data, define governed Data Marts with joins, aliases, and ownership. One-click library.

Push Data Mart results to Google Sheets on schedule. Connect Looker Studio for dashboards. Your analysts control everything.

Full control. Zero cost. No vendor dependency.
Community edition has no usage limits, no trial period, no feature countdown. The core engine is free. Period.
Your data stays on your infrastructure. Credentials stay on your infrastructure. No third-party cloud touches your warehouse.
Source available (ELv2). Connectors are MIT. Fork it, modify it, contribute back. If OWOX disappears tomorrow, your system keeps running.
Same Data Mart engine, same connectors, same governance. The difference: self-managed runs on your infrastructure (you manage deployment, updates, and scaling). Cloud runs on OWOX infrastructure (we manage everything). Cloud adds the Google Sheets Extension (column picker for self-serve browsing), AI Insights (automated narrative reports), Conversational AI, OAuth credential setup, and OData destination. Self-managed includes Google Sheets export (push results on schedule) but not the interactive column picker.
The Community edition is free with no time limit, no usage cap, no trial-to-paid conversion gate. You get all connectors (MIT licensed), full Data Mart management, Google Sheets export, and Looker Studio connector. No phone-home telemetry in Community (it's coming as opt-in). The catch: Community is single-project, no SLA, community support only. If you need multi-project, SLA, or enterprise security features — those are paid editions.
Docker — a free tool that runs the platform in an isolated container. That's the minimum. Community runs on a single machine — your laptop, a $5/month cloud server, a company VM. No complex infrastructure needed. You'll also need a data warehouse (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, or Athena) — most people use BigQuery's free tier. Total infrastructure cost for a typical deployment: $0–30/month.
Self-managed doesn't have one-click OAuth for ad platforms. You'll need to create API credentials manually — get an access token from Facebook Business Manager, a developer token from Google Ads, etc. Each connector's docs include step-by-step credential guides. It takes 10–20 minutes per platform. Once configured, credentials are stored in your environment variables on your infrastructure.
Yes. Your Data Mart definitions, connector configurations, and governance settings carry over. You'd sign up for OWOX Cloud, connect the same warehouse, and re-create your Data Marts (or we can help migrate). The main thing you gain: the Google Sheets Extension (column picker for business users to self-serve), AI Insights, and managed infrastructure.
The platform is source-available under the Elastic License v2 (ELv2). Connectors are open-source under MIT — fully free, fork-friendly, no restrictions. ELv2 means you can use, modify, and deploy OWOX for your own organization. You can't offer it as a managed service to third parties (that's what the Agency and Enterprise editions are for).
Three outcomes you get the moment your data marts go live
All connectors. Full Data Mart governance. Sheets export. Looker Studio. On your machine. Free forever.
Multi-project isolation, SSO, RBAC, HA clustering, monitoring, AI Insights, and SLA.
“Despite having SQL and spreadsheets, self-service never truly worked. 73% of data goes unused. That’s why we built a self-managed version of OWOX BI – so any user can access trusted data, and analysts can stop firefighting dashboards and get back to strategic work”
